'Jane the Virgin' TV Review: Soapy, Sexy, Smart Woman's Life Turns Upside Down
Adapted from the Venezuelan Series "Juana La Virgen," Jane Villanueva is the protagonist on the feel good season of "Jane The Virgin". She is a hardworking, humble and a down-to-earth woman whose life turns upside down in the hills of a rollercoaster ride after an eventful visit to the gynecologist.
She is soapy, smart and sexy, according to TheGuardian.
Narrated by Anthony Mendez, the unusual experiment of an audible narration is somewhat fitting for the series. It creates a natural and warm feeling by the viewers as they sit down together and watch the calm Jane Villanueva and her everyday comedic encounters and extraordinary story.
Jane and her family were the focal point of introduction, though the scene started with the event at the clinic. She lives together with his mother Xiomara (played by Andrea Navedo) and grandmother (played by IvonnaColl).
Aside from being a selfless daughter who puts her family as her highest priority without feeling left out, Jane also has a longtime boyfriend in the character of Michael (played by Brett Dier) who is working in a hotel to support her studies as she is an aspiring teacher.
Gina Rodriguez perfectly played Jane, who is a smart, considerate and thoughtful woman, according to AV Club. In her drama and comedic scenes, Rodriguez's performance is highly anticipated, fresh and undoubtedly good.
The chemistry between Jane and her family is working perfectly as well, making their performance naturally blended and comfortable. It makes it easy for the viewers to assume that they have been together for a long time before the series started.
On the other hand, Alba's Spanish tongue is a smart decision made by its creators to give a certain kind of respect to the character and the audience as well. The plot has a deep sense of second layer added to the story to make it more interesting to watch.
Meanwhile, Jane's relationship with her longtime boyfriend Michael seemed fine and breezy until her long time crush before him, Rafael (played by Justine Baldoni), appeared. It created a series of twists that makes the series unabashedly good and fun to watch.
Just like any other family that is going through difficulties in life, the characters in "Jane The Virgin" depict a natural, fun and a breath-of-fresh-air ambience to deliver to its audience.
